For the tiny amount of regular readers that I had, you may have noticed that this blog isn’t really updated like it has been previously.
Many reasons for this.
Mainly to do with poor mental health (Bipolar with delusional psychosis -basically a low-end psychopath) & lack of mood & time to watch any series to its end &/or write about it once done.
Other reason is not spending as much time watching anime or other things. Would say I’ve been playing more TCG stuff but that’s hardly the case either.
Anyway, am back to watching & critiquing things & will hopefully have a few catch up pieces posted over the weekend as well as finishing up some half completed retro reviews & other articles that I left on the wayside.
Want to be able to post an article at least once a week at minimum & get back to bulk critiques at the end of each anime season.
No promises but no one has hopes up for such a tiny tiny speck on the internet anyway.
Once again, this blog is not dead. I’ve just been swamped by real life, including several months without proper internet access (no home connection, only using wireless broadband) after moving across my country & have been desperately trying to catch up on things that the absence of internet left me -such as 3 seasons of anime, my own work & current pop culture trends.
This is my Master’s thesis that I have worked on for the past two years.
It’s about Miyazaki Hayao’s relationship to soft power, in how he subverts government efforts of agendarisation & control through his own films (primarily discussing Porco Rosso & Spirited Away).
So, BANZAI for it’s completion!
I’ll also be making some changes to the blog.
I’ll be doing interviews with people known within the geek community & with some actors as well. The first of which shall be a little known actress whom some of you may have seen a lot of of last year in historical medical drama The Knick.
I’ve also started a Patreon page to help me acquire the materials to help me work & to enbiggen the blog somewhat.
Since am reaching the end of my Masters work & our other contributors are busy, I thought it was time to add a few tweaks to the blog as well as add a new category for reviews & articles.
The latest section is on Trading Card Games (TCG) -which are also referred to as Collectable Card Games.
I’m doing this because I recently got back into playing Magic: The Gathering & Yu-Gi-Oh as well as starting slightly more obscure games like Weiβ Schwarz (Weiss Schwarz -German for White & Black). Soon I’ll be moving into Pokemon TCG & other series like Cardfight!! Vanguard & Future Card BuddyFight because there are enough people were I live who play it regularly. Also want to get WIXOSScards but they’re still only available in Japanese (but seem to be popular over there).
This will move into reviews of the various TGC, their various flavours/decks/series as well as talking about the different decks & play styles out there. This will lead into recording How To Play guides with other players as well as filming the different types of matches.
For that I was considering setting up either a Patron or other similar donation system so I can afford to buy new cards/decks/booster packs as well as improve software & equipment to record things. I set up a PayPal donation button on the side widget if you care to donate either $1 of $5 USD to me. Every little helps really (since am living hand-to-mouth being a post-grad student & all).
I was also thinking of using this donation system to shift the blog from the free version to the full paid subscription model so can host videos & other things as well as have a customised domain name.
Also: if you have any old TCG stuff lying around that you’re happy to get rid of, please let us know & we’ll arrange compensation & postage stuff.
If any of my readers are interested in helping with this, please leave a comment below.
I’ll also be posting more retro reviews & hopefully finishing up my various manga/comic reviews as well. This is mainly so I can publish the half finish stuff that I have sitting around but also to flesh out the blogs content more.
As always, thanks for reading this tiny corner of the Net’s Geekdom & for your current & future support. Will try to get more regular updates from now on.
In the absence of anything new to post, because am working between my thesis & a couple of articles to mark getting over 10,000 views to the blog in under a year (not a bad feat in such an oversaturated internet market), here’s something sweet that I came across.
Just wanted to welcome my new followers & thank everyone for the increase in page views of late (basically hijacked a post on Kotaku.com.au).
Please feel free to leave comments on any of my posts, would love some feedback (but not about spelling & grammar, I know that’s terrible!).
Also, will be doing about 4 more reviews of the past season’s anime before I move onto writing some other articles -including a discussion on HBO’s True Detective & a retrospective on the Pokemon franchise (which I’ve been meaning to write for a while).
So, once again: thanks for the views & look forward to your feedback.
